Plan:
My plan is to create a Blackjack game with the theme of a normal everyday party. I've taken inspiration from party's I've been to, in order to create the party atmosphere.
The sounds I'm going to create are:
- Cards shuffling
- Cans being cracked open
- Handing out of the cards sound
- Clapping (when you've won)
- Buzzer (when you lose)
- And two different background sound tracks
I will create my soundtrack in garage band. Using the array of tools and instrument loops the program provides I will be able to create an acceptable sound track for my Blackjack game. After I've created my sounds in garage band I will edit it in Audacity, to edit any mistakes and loop so it's long enough for my game.
Creating:
I am creating my sounds using garage band and editing my sounds using Audacity.
Here is a screen shot of me editing my track using Audacity.
The loops for sound effects from my computer |
I recorded all my sounds in stereo, however most of the sounds ended up as mono, so I must have edited them wrong.
I tried to make sounds that were original, but in my opinion, the party theme cut me off from a lot of creativity, as most party's sound the same, and to break this atmosphere with a out of place soundtrack would break the theme of the game.
As well as looping I edited my track to be as chilled out as possible, so that you could forget about the song in the background, but it is fun to listen too as well. The second track is a bit more upbeat and lively, which would be more suited for the party atmosphere, and you can switch between the two in game.

Evaluation:
I think my sounds are okay and kept to my theme but the sprites in my game have context to the theme. Essentially it is like playing blackjack whilst a party goes on elsewhere. I could have developed my sprites a lot more (eg. blackjack table), I believe my sounds and sprites could have gone together to create the atmosphere, but as the sprites are basic, they don't. if I had put more effort into my sprites maybe it would have been better. That being said I believe my sounds should have been stereo to make it sound better, and i should have taken more time out to fix this. I am however pleased with my soundtracks, for work i made from scratch, i'm pleased.
To conclude the sounds work as intended although the sounds aren't exactly how i wanted them. I believe with more practice and effort my sounds/game could have been a lot better than it is.
